No man or demon is equal to Jehovah’s powerful fighting force. It has been said that one faithful Witness plus Jehovah equals the majority. (Judg. 6:16) How true that is! Keep those thoughts in mind when you feel intimidated by something a workmate, a schoolmate, or an unbelieving relative says or does. Remember, you are not alone in this fight. You are following Jehovah’s direction.

According to this article, angels are ALWAYS beside you to help you confront workmates, schoolmates and unbelieving mates? This article doesn't really give any real answers on the methods angels use to protect us!

Do angels help you put on your seat belt when driving to work, Kingdom Hall meetings and/or field service? Do angels help you stay clear of automobile accidents? Do they help you with winter driving or really bad driving conditions?

Do angels make sure you make it to every Kingdom Hall meeting, help you raise your hand to participate at the meetings and put in your 10 hours of monthly field service?

Do angels help you with aggressive dogs or unsafe neighborhoods while out in field service?

Do angels give woman mental and physical strength to face an unbelieving husband who wishes to control and cause physical harm?

According to the Watchtower 2017 no. 5 article, angels have limitations, do not know everything, do right and wrong and even choose to rebel against God? How are they considered Jehovah's fighting force when they have just as many weaknesses as humans?

Here is an illustration of a bird in a cage that reminded me of how easy it is to be mentally enslaved.

The bird cage is a holding cell. The bird cannot fly, nor escape because of the metal bars. He makes no attempt to escape because he is mentally conditioned to accept his fate. Little does this bird realize that if he looks around there are missing metal bars. He has the freedom to escape. Unfortunately, he doesn't bother to look around. He holds onto the bars for security and comfort.

Every Jehovah's Witness is like this bird. They don't realize that their ''metal cage'' is the Governing Body. By being constantly reminded that ''personal opinions'' and ''private ideas'' do not belong to mature Christians. By the constant reading of publications, numerous meetings, assemblies and field service, they will never escape the clutches of the Watchtower Society. Until everyone thinks for themselves and does their own research, they will never escape.

PERSECUTION OF JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES IN CANADA: DUPLESSIS ERA

From 1936 to 1959, Jehovah's Witnesses faced religious and civil opposition in Quebec. Historically, the Roman Catholic Church had been the dominant institution in the life of the province of Quebec and a major influence on French Canadian culture. It nurtured the young people of Quebec, in language and faith; and at the same time it endorsed the legitimacy of British rule and of the established economic order.

For generations, the Roman Catholic Church in Quebec worked with the government, schools, and the courts to maintain the values and attitudes that supported the Church. This encouraged people to vote for politicians who favoured the status quo, the existing political, economic and social order.

Under the premiership of Maurice Duplessis, politics and the Church were intertwined as the latter continued to maintain a firm and influential hold on the people of Quebec. Throughout his political career, Duplessis courted the support of the Church.

After World War II, the Church came under attack by the Jehovah's Witnesses who challenged its doctrines. They were determined to seek Catholic converts. In response, the Duplessis regime mounted a campaign of persecution against Jehovah's Witnesses and communists. The result was a legal struggle between the Duplessis regime and lawyers such as Frank Scott and Pierre Trudeau who argued in defence of the rights of minorities.

The clash between Jehovah's Witnesses and the Church became an issue of the competing ideas of freedom of speech and the freedom of religion. Jehovah's Witnesses went to court to establish the right to distribute their literature on the streets of Quebec. They also became political dissenters because during the Duplessis era, a challenge to the Church was tantamount to challenging the government. Any limitation of the Church's authority would mean limiting Duplessis's authority.

Duplessis' efforts to rid the streets of Jehovah's Witnesses took the issue all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada. The legal issues concerned freedom of speech as much as it concerned freedom of religion. The Supreme Court held that there can be no freedom of religion without freedom of speech.

The apostle Paul was convinced that these teachings were true. Why? Because he used the Scriptures to prove “by references that it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead.” (Acts 17:2, 3) The first-century disciples accepted those teachings and relied on the holy spirit to help them understand God’s Word. They proved to themselves that these teachings were based on the Scriptures. (Acts 17:11, 12; Heb. 5:14) They did not build their faith on feelings and emotions alone, and they did not serve Jehovah simply because they felt good when they associated with fellow believers. Instead, their faith was built on “the accurate knowledge of God.”—Col. 1:9, 10.

FIRST CENTURY CHRISTIANS NEEDED THREE BASIC TRUTHS:
1. KNOWLEDGE OF THE SCRIPTURES

2. BELIEVE IN JESUS' RANSOM SACRIFICE AND HIS RESUREECTION

3. HOLY SPIRIT TO HELP UNDERSTAND GOD'S WORD

9. To start with, you need to prove to yourself at least three basic truths. First, you need to be convinced that Jehovah God is the Creator of all things. (Ex. 3:14, 15; Heb. 3:4; Rev. 4:11) Second, you must prove to yourself that the Bible is God’s inspired message to mankind. (2 Tim. 3:16, 17) And third, you need to confirm that Jehovah has an organized group of people who are worshipping him under Christ’s headship and that Jehovah’s Witnesses are that group. (Isa. 43:10-12; John 14:6; Acts 15:14) Proving to yourself those basic truths does not require that you become a walking encyclopedia of Bible knowledge. Your goal should be to use your “power of reason” to strengthen your conviction that you have the truth.—Rom. 12:1.
